Where Lawn Damage Actually Comes From
Most yard damage on a tree removal job comes from one of three things: heavy equipment compacting or rutting wet grass, dragging logs and brush across the lawn instead of carrying them, or debris scattered during the felling and cleanup process. All three are avoidable with planning, not luck.
What We Do Before Cutting Starts
- Lay plywood or protective mats along the equipment path if the ground is soft or wet
- Plan the drop zone to avoid dragging heavy sections across open lawn where possible
- Cover flower beds, small shrubs, and irrigation heads near the work area
- Identify sprinkler lines and shallow utility lines before positioning equipment
During the Job
Large sections are lowered with rope rather than dropped when there’s lawn, landscaping, or hardscape nearby. Brush and logs are carried or wheeled out rather than dragged whenever the terrain allows it. If ruts do form on soft ground, we address them as part of cleanup rather than leaving it as an afterthought.
After the Job
Full cleanup includes raking debris, removing wood chips and bark from the grass, and filling in any equipment ruts with topsoil. If grinding a stump, we backfill with the ground wood chips or topsoil, your choice. We’ll walk the yard with you before we leave so nothing gets missed.

What if the ground is wet or it rained recently?
We use protective mats or plywood on soft or saturated ground, and in some cases will reschedule heavy equipment work if conditions genuinely risk damage that mats can’t prevent.
Will there be ruts in my lawn afterward?
Not if we can help it. On the rare occasion equipment does leave marks, we fill and level them as part of standard cleanup, not as a separate charge.
Do you protect flower beds and landscaping near the tree?
Yes, we identify and cover or fence off nearby plantings before cutting starts, and plan the drop zone around them.
